Spanish Wines

Spain, a country in the grip of vinous revolution with the most land under vine in the world, about half as much as both France and Italy, and yet only the third most important producer of wine. The country's regional diversity is reflected in the wines, which range from light, dry whites in the cool Atlantic region of Galicia to heavy alcoholic reds in the Levante and the Mediterranean south. The Spanish claim to have up to 600 different grape varieties, although 80 per cent of the country's vineyards are planted with just over 20 of them.
