English Wines
English wine is an increasingly respectable drink, despite being produced at relatively high altitudes. Too few consumers realise that English wine is quite distinct from British wine: that it is the produce of freshly picked grapes grown in England. The most planted varieties are Müller-Thurgau, Reichensteiner and Seyval Blanc, whose hybrid status presented a major stumbling block to introducing a quality wine scheme that meets with European Union approval.
