Italian Wines
No longer playing a second fiddle to France, Italy has established its own highly distinctive wine personality. At the top end the wines have a vivacity and style of their own. Most of Italy's best wines are red, but by all means not all. Italy learned to make "modern", i.e. fresh and crisp, white wine in the 1960s. In the 1980s she began to add back the character that was lost in the process and by the late 1990s had succeeded.
